Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev inaugurated the country's largest pharmaceutical manufacturing plant at the Pirallahi Industrial Park near Baku. The facility, known as Gen Pharma Caucasus Manufacturing Operations, was established through a partnership between the Turkish firm GEN İlaç ve Sağlık Ürünleri AŞ and the Azerbaijani Ministry of Economy.
Spanning over 5.2 hectares, the plant is equipped with advanced technology sourced from several countries. It is designed to produce a wide range of medications, including painkillers, antibiotics, and treatments for cardiology, neurology, and diabetes. The facility aims to employ 178 people and reach an annual production capacity of 60 million boxes of medication.
Beyond serving the domestic market, the company plans to export products to nations such as Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Georgia. GEN İlaç Chairman Abidin Gülmüş stated that the factory intends to produce 50 different medications by 2027 and expand its portfolio to over 500 products within five years, while also serving as a scientific training base for local universities.
